Road Infrastructure Improvements Coming in September
We are pleased to announce two important road infrastructure projects that will take place this fall to help improve and maintain transportation infrastructure within our community.
Route 109 / Route 105 Intersection Retaining Wall Rehabilitation
Beginning September 14, 2026, work undertaken by the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure will commence at the Route 109 / Route 105 intersection at the upper end of Perth.
During construction, the area will be reduced to one lane of traffic and is expected to remain in place until late fall 2026. Motorists should anticipate minor delays and are encouraged to use caution when travelling through the work zone.
This work is essential to preserving the integrity of the roadway and ensuring the long-term safety and reliability of this important intersection.
East Riverside Drive Paving Project
A second infrastructure improvement project will involve the paving of approximately one kilometer of East Riverside Drive, extending from the Public Library to beyond the Hospital.
The contract has been awarded to Northern Construction, with paving scheduled to take place between September 21 and September 30, 2026.
This resurfacing work will improve driving conditions, extend the life of the roadway, and enhance access for residents and visitors alike.

Keeping Our Road Workers Safe
As construction activity increases this fall, we remind all motorists to exercise extra caution when travelling through work zones. Road construction workers perform their duties in close proximity to moving traffic, and their safety depends on drivers remaining alert, obeying posted speed limits, following traffic control personnel and signage, and allowing extra space around work areas. Slowing down and staying attentive helps protect workers, fellow motorists, and everyone using our roads.

The Village of Southern Victoria invites proposals for the supply and delivery of one (1) new heavy duty pickup truck for use by the Fire Department.

Southern Victoria Council Meeting – August 10, 2026
Community engagement remains a key focus as participation in the Community Strategic Plan survey continues to grow. Residents still have time to share their feedback, with surveys being accepted until September 10. A new Cooling and Warming Centre Activation Policy was approved to help ensure safe public spaces are available during periods of extreme heat or cold. The policy strengthens emergency preparedness efforts and supports the well-being of residents during severe weather events.
Progress continues on local infrastructure projects, including the planned paving of DTI’s East Riverside Drive. The project is currently out for tender, with submissions closing on August 20.
Another step was taken toward formalizing access to the Aroostook Boat Launch through approval to proceed with a Land Use Agreement with J.D. Irving, Limited. Once finalized, the agreement would help formalize public access and recreational use of the route leading to the boat launch, an important recreational asset for residents and visitors. Municipal staff have been working to improve the road access.
Council continues to work on several municipal policies and by-laws, including reviews of the Animal Control By-law, Code of Conduct By-law, and Procedural By-law. Discussion is also underway regarding an Open Communication Policy aimed at supporting transparency and effective communication with residents.
Additional updates included transportation and infrastructure planning, public safety reporting, and administrative, fire, and water system operations. These ongoing initiatives help support informed decision-making and the continued delivery of municipal services throughout Southern Victoria.
Code of Conduct Complaints
The meeting also included consideration of a Code of Conduct complaint that had been investigated by an independent third party. Following receipt of the investigator's report and independent legal advice, a resolution was passed accepting the findings of the investigation and imposing sanctions in accordance with the municipality's Code of Conduct By-law.
